The Sand Dunes of Winterton-on-Sea
The Dunes for which Winterton is famous are designated as a NNR (National Nature Reserve). They are also listed as a Special Area of Conservation and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. As well as being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the Dunes are a Special Protection Area Please visit www.naturalengland.org.uk for more information.
But for you and your family the dunes provide days of fun and exploration. Winterton Dunes are not a small sandy enclave… they are a huge expanse of almost wilderness stretching many miles northwards to the old Norfolk villages of Horsey and Sea Palling… easily a full days walk either through the dunes or by using the recently extended Norfolk Coast Path if you wish to stretch your legs to work on your fitness. You can also go further…
The dunes also provide your family the opportunity to discover elusive bird-life, easily the best way to create long lasting holiday memories. Henrys Cottage provides an extensive library of bird identification books and I can also provide you with special beginner bird-watching kits that include speciality binoculars and kids spotter diaries. Please ask when making your booking… they are extremely popular.
